Conservation contribution, or donation, is an optional fee of 1000 yen (about 10USD) requested to hikers at one of major parking lots or trail heads, for which currently no practical benefit is given in return except for a small giveaway.
Do I have to pay an entrance fee to visit Mt. Fuji?
No, there is no admission fee of any kind to enter Mt. Fuji, but optional contribution of ¥1000 (approx. 10 USD) is kindly requested at each trailhead.
What is "open season" (kaizan-ki)?
Kaizan-ki〈開山期〉is the locally defined "open season" or on-season period of time, during which amenities and facilities along trails are available for the benefit of hikers.
The "5th Station" (go-gōme)
The 5th Station originally indicated the halfway to the summit on a particular route, which has been developed as the base station for each major trail accessible by vehicles.
